So when Mavis finally broke down and actually showed her love to Zeref that created some contradiction seeing that their love for others die but Zeref and Mavis both technically can't die. So some light came down on them like fairy law killing them both initally and saving Makarov's life some how. Im not a manga reader and I'm not a hundred percent sure how the curse of ankhseram works. But from what I watched it's like as if that Mavis and Zeref's love for each other killed them both creating some kind of contradiction the magic power from that even saved Makarov's life as well. But then we see the two at Lucy's award ceremony with their minds wiped and not remembering anything. How is that possible? did they get reincaranted into new bodies and had their lives reset? Or did the contradiciton of the two killing each other instead just backfired and reset their memories? I'm not sure and I want to find out lol. Zeref angered the gods, and as punishment received the Contradictory Curse, which emits a deadly aura that kills all he touches. It was this cursed figure that Mavis met while on her adventures, and Zeref realized that he had a friend in the young woman. Alike And Opposite The relationship between Mavis and Zeref is one of duality light and dark, life and death, love and hate. The two are alike in their plights as immortals, bearing the dreadful curse of Ankhselam and their love of family. But otherwise, they went in opposite directions with their eternal lives. Zeref represents the selfish side of immortality, using his ample time and power to concoct grand schemes to return to his ordinary family life with Natsu. He threatened all of Fiore so he could gain the Fairy Heart — the magic in Mavis' preserved body — to reverse time and undo the world so he could be with his brother once again. Mavis, meanwhile, learned to accept her fate and supports Fairy Tail from beyond the grave. She doesn't want her life back the way Zeref does, and instead, represents self-sacrifice.
